#13 Redefining Mistakes
All of us have things in our past that didn’t work out the way that we wanted to. One thing that separates really successful people from people that stay stuck, is how they define those failures.
Welcome to another episode of Mindfully Organized 2 – Minute Tips. I am Rose Hawley-Perry, The De-Clutter Your Mind So Your Soul Can Shine Coach and you might be asking yourself. “What does she mean, how can you define any of those things differently?”
Everything that happens in your life informs who you are, you get to define how that happens. So if you make a poor decision do you as a poor decision maker? Or do you lessons you can learn and move on and make better decisions in the future.
Let me tell you a little story about my life…
In my teens and twenties I really let life push me around. I was graduating from college. I didn’t realize it but I was scared. I was working in a childcare center. My good friend was getting her teaching credential. And all the sudden getting my teaching credential sounded like a great idea.
So I did that, I did a year of master’s level work to get my credential. I got out and then I realized. Oh my goodness, I knew I didn’t want to be teacher. My mom had been a teach and I knew the parts that of this that I didn’t like.
And if you just hear the story this way, it seems like a big mistake. But…
I met an amazing man who was my master teacher for 4 months during this program. A man who introduced me to William Glasser’s Choice Theory and changed my life forever…that is what my whole coaching practice is based on.
I would not be here today if I had not done that year of master’s level teaching credential work.
Do I want to teach kids? No. I want to teach entrepreneurs. But did that year give me more than I could ever expect? Yeah! Sometimes you just don’t know what lesson you are learning when you are learning it.
I have more about this topic in my free 4 part video series. Stop, Don’t Buy Another Business Building Program Until You Have Heard This. You can opt-in at https://mindfullyorganized.com/wait/
So I challenge you. Take a look at the big “failures” in you business. Things that you could beat yourself up for. Instead of looking at the negative, look for what you learned. See if you can find the life lessons that made your business even better. Maybe you found out you needed more time to market or that you were just plain not doing the work that you are actually called to do.
You are special and unique and awesome, and you wouldn’t be you without everything that is happened so far.
