2 Minute Tip ~ #12 Negative Voice

We all have these voices in our heads that seem to try to bring us down and dash our hopes; that don’t seem to have any real usefulness. What do you do when the voice in your head starts talking negative?

Welcome to Mindfully Organized 2-Minute Tips I’m Rose Hawley-Perry,  The Declutter Your Mind So Your Soul Can Shine Coach and I’m here to tell you that everyone has a little negative voice in your head… in their heads… even the people that seem to have it all together.

What you do when your negative voice starts to get loud and affect what you’re doing? The very first thing you need to do is remember that just because it’s in your mind it does not mean that it’s true. You’re mind’s kind of like receiver box. It’s full of all kinds of different television channels. Some are good. Some are bad. Some you could care less about. You get to choose what to dial into when the negative voices are in there. It’s a choice to stay on that channel.

The very first thing you need to do is sit down and listen to what the negative voices have to say. There might be something in there that you need to hear. That negative voice is often there just to protect you. So, sit down and listen. There may be something wrong with the situation that maybe not coming up as clearly, but it may be there.

If it’s just an old “I’m not good enough”, “I can’t do this”; that it might be some old programming and you need to change the channel. So how do you change the channel? There’s a lot of techniques. You can use mantras to, kind of, ease your spirit. You can give your negative voice a different job. You can focus through the fear which I talk about in a previous two minute tip. Anything to, kind of, take your mind back into a positive place. So, the next time you have some negative voices rolling through your heads, stop, listen, and then change the channel.

2 Minute Tip #10 ~ Focus Through the Fear

What do you do when you get anxious about your business?

Welcome to Mindfully Organized Two Minutes Tips. I’m Rose Hawley-Perry, the De-Clutter Your Mind So Your Soul Can Shine Coach, and I’m here to talk to you today about what to do when your fear starts overwhelming you.

If you’re like a lot of people, you’ll do anything except work on what’s making you anxious. It may be time to try another tactic. The next time that anxiety rears its ugly head, try working through it.

What do I mean by that? Do something for your business. Anything! Your mind can’t focus on two things at one time, so if you change your focus from your anxiety to your business you’re doing something more productive.

This actually has a few benefits: The first being that you’re not in anxiety, you’re moving forward, you are creating positive momentum. Even if the things you are working on aren’t the most perfect things to work on your moving forward.

One of the other benefits I want to talk about is the fact that just starting to work gives us direction and a lot of times our anxiety comes up because we don’t have direction. When we focus on one thing and we start getting it done, it allows us to open up and be ready for the possibilities that the universe has to throw at us, and when we’re closed off, and we’re tight, and we’re anxious, we’re not open to these possibilities.

You might even find yourself inspired to change course and that’s okay. In fact, we’ll talk about that a little bit more next week.

This isn’t meant to turn you into a workaholic. This is just meant to focus you. So make sure that you’re doing the things you need to do to take care of yourself, that you’re spending time with your friends and your family. But, if you have time to work on your business and you’re finding yourself stuck in anxiety, I want you to choose to work on something.

2 Minute Tip #8 ~ Getting Sh*t Done

Alrighty, You have great ideas, you even followed my advice and got everything out of your head and on to paper, you set your  priority tasks….and you still aren’t getting shit done.

Welcome to Mindfully Organized 2 Minute tips I am Rose Hawley-Perry, The Declutter Your Mind So Your Soul Can Shine and in today’s episode we are going to talk about focus time.

We have so, so many things to detract us in today’s world. Do you get fb notification on your phone, your computer, your tablet? Does your email ping you? Do you have Skype, Google chat and Facebook chat all up all day long?

It has been proven that none of us multitask; some of us are better at switching between tasks, but for all of us it does take time and brain power to switch.

I have two suggestions for getting the important items off your to-do list.

  • The first involves making an appointment with yourself. As an entrepreneur my schedule is very flexible, sometimes too flexible. At times I find myself putting off what I really need to do for appointments with other people. So now I make “appointments” with myself for work time. IF I have to move them I do, but I know about how much focus time I want to have in the week and I make sure I have that much time.
  • Second, during focus time shut the notifications off. Turn your phone on silent, Shut down email, Facebook and Google chat, and Skype. Now, you can write something, or plan something, or learn something. Make sure you set a goal for this focus time. Write one blog post. Go through one module. Research X. At first the silence is going to feel weird. You might want to turn on music, but make sure  it is your music from your ipod or cd so you aren’t hearing news and commercials and such. And then sit with the time. You are going to want to distract yourself but keep bringing yourself back to the task at hand. These 2 minute tips are all written in focus time.

2 Minute Tips #7 ~ Mentors

We are often told the key to success is hard work AND  having the right mentor.  But, finding a mentor is a topic that is hardly ever discussed.  This week’s tip will give you some different tips to help you get clear about what you want in  a mentor/mentee relationship.

A mentor is different from a coach, a consultant, an adviser.  It is a more personal relationship.  One in which, someone who is where you want to be some day, a few steps ahead of you or lots of step ahead of you, takes their time and energy to help you along.  To listen, to advise, to introduce you to the right people on occasion.

This relationship is “not a for hire” relationship.  It is a relationship that develops over time.  What do you get out of it?  Someone that has been there and done that.  A sounding board for the your whole person. What do they get out of it?  The joy of helping someone grow. The pleasure of knowing that they are contributing to the future of their field.

Because this is more like a friendship than a business colleague,

you certainly don’t want to just go around asking people to mentor you that you just met. That would be like asking someone to be your best friend the first day you meet them!

Don’t know where to start?  The best thing to do is to hire the right coach to help you with whatever you are stuck on right now and keep reaching out to the awesome people in your industry using the tips in today’s video!

Have you ever wondered how to get a mentor?  How successful, important people choose who to pass on their knowledge and skills to?

I have been reading Sheryl Sandbeg’s book, Lean In: Women Work, and The Will to Lead. She has a whole chapter on mentoring.  I have to admit that I never really thought about mentoring the way that she describes it.  I never really thought how that relationship goes together.  As an entrepreneur we are often told you need to find a mentor.  But how do you do that?  I have some tips for you.

First things first, don’t ask someone directly to be your mentor.  Mentors choose you.  This would be like asking someone to be your best friend the first day that you meet them.

  • Come with well prepared questions.  DON’T ask them anything you can find out doing a google search.  Do your research, find out what is already out there. Then ask them detailed questions about what you found.
  • Send them things you think they might be interested in.  This people are really busy and they don’t always have time to keep up with the industry news. So send them an interesting article or ask them how they feel about something that came out in the news.
  • Be prepared to get feedback.  If you are defensive about something that they have to tell you, they have no reason to give you feedback after that.  Even if you disagree, say thank you, you have given me something to think about.

You probably want to connect with several people in this way at the same time. You don’t know who you are going to develop a relationship with but I can almost guarantee you that it won’t be with everyone that you reach out to.

2 Minute Tip #6 ~ Rant…Get the Help You NEED!

Are you trying to get everything done all by yourself?  Do you feel overwhelmed with the amount of information to process, tasks to complete, decisions to be made?

Welcome to Mindfully Organized 2 Minute Tips I am Rose Hawley-Perry, The De-clutter Your Mind So Your Soul Can Shine Coach and in today’s episode I am going to rant for a little bit.

I don’t know exactly why, but many, many women entrepreneurs including myself prior to this want to figure it all  for our ourselves.  Spending money on getting help with something “I can figure out myself”, getting help with the small routine tasks, asking someone who is succeeding at doing what you want to do for specific advice.  All these things seem ridiculous and a waste of time and money and energy.

But let me tell you, I realized that I was flat out wrong.  When I looked back into my 15 year career in the business world, I did not move from Program Assistant to Director of Operations all by myself.  Admittedly, I did a lot of research on my own, I figured out the right people to ask and the right questions to ask those people. But I always said, oh, I don’t know much I just know that right people to ask.  But moving into the entrepreneurial life I lost that knowledge, it felt like a failure to ask, or a imposition on the other person or ….I know you get it.

The truth of the matter is that we all can use help.  There is NO successful person that has done it alone.

I am an absolutely wonderful coach when it comes to decluttering, mind, body, space.  I can help you let go of the stuff that is weighing you down.  But why should I spend all my time trying to figure out the business side of getting my message out there to you.  It is like trying to reinvent the wheel and we all know how silly that is.

So what do you do?  Ask for help, if you are struggling with housework ask a friend to come over.  If you are struggling in business, hire a business coach.  If you need some free time see if someone can come babysit your kids for the evening. If you want to declutter your mind so your soul can shine hire me. 

The other piece of this puzzle for business is mentors and I will discuss that in next week’s tip.

I know this is hard, especially at first!  But the very best thing I ever did for Mindfully Organized is hire my business coach!  She is a blessing for me, my business and my relationship.  You do not have to do this alone.
